Glyph Poster Brief
Objective:
Create a poster which highlights two new glyphs developed to represent a duodecimal or base 12 system. In addition, the poster is to include information about the author as well as the history of the font.
Strategy/Solution:
The most important strategy was working out how to create two new glyphs that would fit within the system of an existing typeface. This led me to Joshua Darden’s Freight Text because of the beautiful balance of the letterform’s weight and the casualness of its design. The consistency of the typeface’s thick and thin aspects were visually appealing and seemed to have a consistent rhythm that would lend itself naturally to making glyphs from. Having been a sign painter in my youth, this style of letter would have lent itself naturally to brush lettering. This three-column layout gives it a classic, professional look with lots of white space supporting the information and making it easy to read.
